AUSTRALIA: Rambutan bumper season coming to an end

Most of the big producers have wrapped up their harvest and according to grower Kerry Eupene, it was one the best seasons the industry has ever had.

“It’s been a good season as far as yields go and certainly the quality has been good,” he said.

“This year we’ve been able to adequately supply every mainland capital city, and I think you could say this industry has reached the status of a significant minor horticultural crop for the Northern Territory.”

Mr Eupene says there’s still a few rambutans in the local Darwin market, but for those looking to buy, time is running out.

“You’ve got to get in now, because I would guess within the next two weeks the Northern Territory rambutan crop will be finished for the year, then all you got to do is look forward to October and the next season.”
