Vacancy post: Chief Executive Officer

The International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet) is seeking for candidates with outstanding managerial and technical expertise, for the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO).


TFNet was set up in July 2000, under the auspices of the FAO Intergovernmental Sub-Group on Banana and Tropical Fruits, as a global network which is both intergovernmental and inter-institutional, with members acting in concert through one lead agency on inter-country decisions. Its vision is that TFNet will be a dynamic, sustainable and self-financing global network with a mission to promote sustainable development of the tropical fruit industry globally through international cooperation in the production, consumption and trade of the commodity.


TFNet currently has 267 members from 39 countries, comprising of 14 country members (Bangladesh, China, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nigeria, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Syria, Vietnam, Australia and Sri Lanka), 19 Associate members and 234 ordinary members. The network sources its income from host country contributions, membership fees, consultancies, studies, projects and capacity building activities.


The headquarters of TFNet is based in SERDANG, SELANGOR, MALAYSIA.


The successful candidate shall possess all of the following requirements:

2. Key Responsibilities

  • To pro-actively and clearly set strategic direction for the organization and to oversee critical dimensions in delivery of initiatives and projects.
  • To visibly represent and promote TFNet
  • Oversee development and implementation of TFNet programs and activities
  • To establish and maintain strong and concrete (key) relationships with members, network representatives, partners and funders
  • To actively and strategically interface with and advise the TFNet Board of Trustees (BOT) and its Chair
  • To manage the organization in a cost-effective, results-oriented and sustainable manner
  • To lead and nurture staff in a motivating and capacity-building manner


3. Qualifications and experience:

  • Open to citizens of all Country Members of TFNet (in the case of applicants from Malaysian government agencies, applicants MUST be at least a Grade 52 officer and above)
  • Postgraduate qualifications or equivalent postgraduate professional development in relevant disciplines such as agricultural economics, economics, socio-economics, agribusiness, agriculture management or a related field
  • Management, technical leadership and knowledge of a high order in tropical fruit production and trade
  • Demonstrated fundraising experience and familiarity with international and regional donor communities
  • Strong financial management experience
  • Excellent command of English, both oral and written. Knowledge of any other internationally used language such as French and Spanish would be an advantage
  • Proven track record of managing multi-stakeholder projects
  • Demonstrated professional and managerial competence
  • Outstanding interpersonal and listening skills with the ability to articulate the intended message
  • Demonstrated the ability to lead and work effectively with diverse culture and people of different national and cultural backgrounds in an international network setting
  • Extensive and proven knowledge on regional and international cooperation in the tropical fruit industry
  • Minimum 17-20 years working experience in related fields
  • At least 5 years of senior management experience
  • Comfortable with IT applications – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
