  CHINA: Supply of bananas in Yunnan is limited, imported bananas is in short supply     ECUADOR: Banana growers block roads to protest low prices  
               
  Recently, the overall volume of banana production in Yunnan has been limited and the sales have slowed down.     Banana growers from three provinces in Ecuador blocked main roads across the South American country on Monday to demand government action to boost prices they say are too low for them to meet production costs.  
               
  INDIA: Country to export banana, baby corn to Canada     CAMBODIA: Banana workers reportedly getting sick from chemicals used in farms  
               
  India will soon commence exports of banana and baby corn to Canada, after market access had been approved.     Workers are reportedly experiencing permanent joint pains, stomach cramps, vomiting, fainting, and numbness in their extremities after prolonged exposure to various chemicals.  
               
  ST LUCIA: Moving to expand banana trade     EGYPT: Partnership with Australia for banana waste recycling  
               
  The St Lucia government says it is encouraged by the talks held with an established buyer on the possibility of using Antigua as a distribution hub for the sale of bananas to countries in the region.     The Egyptian government is expanding its partnership with Australia to recycle banana waste as Egypt prepares to host the 27th Conference of the Parties on Climate Change (COP27) in November 2022.  
               
  UZBEKISTAN: Banana imports almost tripled in March 2022     KENYA: Banana processing plant commissioned in Kisii County  
               
  The volume of banana imports to Uzbekistan in March 2022 amounted to 15 400 tonnes, which is almost three times higher than in the same period in 2021, citing official data on imports of main food products.     The Ministry of Devolution commissioned a banana processing plant on the outskirts of Kisii town, Kenya.  
               
  AUSTRALIA: Mango shoot looper pest detected in NT for first time, putting fruit industry on alert     INDIA: Alphonso mango farmers from Konkan partner with food and tech platform Innoterra  
               
  An exotic plant pest known as mango shoot looper has been officially detected in the Northern Territory for the first time, putting the region’s mango industry on alert.     Alphonso mango farmers from the Konkan region have partnered with Innoterra, a Swiss-Indian food and tech platform company to launch their brand, Ekyaam.  
               
  INDIA: Insects, climate change eat into mango cultivation     AUSTRALIA: Mango harvester that locates ripe fruit could ease labor shortage woes  
               
  Erratic climatic conditions coupled with the intense heatwave and pest attacks will result in a severe decline in mango yield, stated a farmer.     The world’s first automatic mango harvester is promising to revolutionize the industry, as it approaches commercialization in Central Queensland.  
               
  MALAYSIA: Government allocates USD235,000 for Sabah pineapple industry     SPAIN: Bioactive and sustainable plastic material made by reusing pineapple residues  
               
  Minister of Agriculture and Food Industries (MAFI), Datuk Sei Dr Ronald Kiandee, said the allocation through the Sabah Pineapple Industry Development Pilot Project would provide great benefits to its cultivation in the state.     Scientists from the University of Alicante are developing edible films of natural origin with antioxidant extracts and aromatic capacity obtained from pineapple waste for subsequent application in the food packaging industry.  
               
  GHANA: Sugarloaf pineapple to feature at Fruitlogistica 2022     MALAYSIA: How does pineapple fiber enhance granitic soil?  
               
  The Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA) in collaboration with the West Africa Competitiveness Programme (WACOMP) are supporting the promotion of Ghanaian exotic fruits under the theme “Discover the superior taste of Ghana’s green gold”.     Researchers from three universities in Malaysia have collaborated on a paper investigating the effects of a mixture of pineapple fiber and hydrated lime on the compressive strength of granitic residual soil.  
               
  COSTA RICA: Three new varieties of papaya developed     INDIA: Bengaluru-based biotech lab develops tabletop papaya variety 'Dawn Delight'  
               
  Costa Rica recently launched three new varieties of papaya, which will be distributed to the country’s producers so they can start planting.     Developed by Thomas Biotech Lab, ‘Dawn Delight’ grows only up to three or four feet and is best for cultivation on the terrace, balconies, and kitchen gardens.  
               
  USA: Avocado prices surge to a 24-year high     USA: Eating two servings of avocados a week linked to lower risk of cardiovascular disease  
               
  Avocado prices jumped to the highest in more than two decades amid tightening supplies in Mexico, the world’s biggest exporter of the fruit, signaling pricier guacamole.     Eating two or more servings of avocado weekly was associated with a lower risk of cardiovascular disease, according to new research published today in the Journal of the American Heart Association  
               
  AUSTRALIA: Avocado growers get support to access Japanese market as domestic prices fall     US: Avocado waste could provide fiber source for dogs  
               
  Avocados Australia supports growers in accessing Japanese market, thus avoiding further dumping of excess fruits amidst oversupply issue     University of Illinois researchers looked at the possibility of using avocado meal – the ground, dried, and defatted pulp, seed, and skin left over after avocado oil processing – as a fiber source in dry dog food.  
               
  THAILAND: China’s Covid restrictions a bitter experience for durian exporters     CHINA: Rising durian appetite wows traders, growers  
               
  Covid led to many restrictions on import of goods into mainland China, and durian farmers are facing the heat of these policies.     Chinese consumers’ appetite for durian, a tropical fruit known for its pungent smell, has been rising over the past few years.  
               
  VIETNAM: Tien Giang expands fruit production area     THAILAND: Ministry sees 15% rise in fruit exports  
               
  The Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang is seeking to expand the areas under various fruits to help increase farmers’ incomes and exports.     The Commerce Ministry is upbeat about fruit export prospects, predicting outbound shipments to grow by 15% this year while pledging to speed up tackling existing export obstacles and promoting sales via advance contracts.  
               
  VIETNAM: Farmers cut down orchards as dragon fruit exports slow     AUSTRALIA: Lychee harvest season ended just before the nasty East Coast weather events  
               
  Dragon fruit prices have fallen off a cliff after the impasse at the China border due to COVID-19 fears held up Vietnamese trucks laden with various goods since late of last year.     Australian lychee growers were spared of adverse weather conditions that impacted Queensland and New South Wales, with completion of harvest  
               
  INDIA: Assam exports jackfruit & green chilli to Dubai     SOUTH AFRICA: The game-changing passion fruit cultivar developed  
               
  Assam has started export to Dubai, with a consignment of 1.5 tonnes of tender jackfruit and 0.5 tonnes of green chilli.     A new and juicer passion fruit variety known as the Silesia has been bred through the efforts of a local game breeder in the North West province
