  AUSTRALIA: Banana freckle disease spreads to 12 new locations across the Northern Territory     CAMBODIA: Banana exports may reach 500,000 tons in 2022  
               
  The Northern Territory government has confirmed multiple outbreaks of the fungal disease known as banana freckle.     The annual export volume of bananas is expected to reach 500,000 tons, and fresh bananas have become Cambodia’s largest export agricultural product.  
               
  INDIA: Banana research center to release two disease-resistant varieties     SAINT LUCIA: Agriculture Ministry announces recommencement of banana export  
               
  The National Research Centre for Banana (NRCB), which steps into its 30th year, will introduce two new Grand Naine banana varieties during the course of the year, according to its Director S. Uma.     Banana shipments from Saint Lucia to the UK have recommenced since June 2022.  
               
  WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM: Here’s how nuclear technology could save the banana     CHINA: Demand in the off-season is not strong, and banana imports decreased by 20.20% in July  
               
  The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is helping scientists from six Latin American countries detect and contain Fusarium wilt using nuclear and related techniques.     As the market lacks a sustained positive boost, China’s banana imports were 124,000 tons in July 2022, a decrease of 20.20% month-on-month.

  The supermarket is taking the precautionary step of recalling Morrisons Mango and Morrisons Mango Fingers due to possible traces of salmonella.     The majority of Pakistan’s second-most populous and agriculture-dependent province of Sindh was declared “calamity-hit” on 23 August.  
               
  INDONESIA: Fresh pineapples gain official China market access     CHINA: Shanghai lockdown is over but sales of Philippine pineapples have not yet recovered  
               
  On Aug. 15, Indonesian pineapples became the latest in a spurt of new fresh fruit items permitted for import into China.     The lockdown in Shanghai is over and the sales of import pineapples have resumed, but market conditions are chaotic.  
               
  NIGERIA: Thriving pineapple business in Abuja     COLOMBIA: Producers in Antioquia might be able to grow the UN Cotové papaya variety once again  
               
  Pineapple business is a lucrative business in Nigeria either by packaging and reselling them.     The UN Cotové variety of papaya is resistant to the papaya ring spot virus.  
               
  PHILIPPINES: Davao-based firm to export pineapples, papayas to Singapore     MEXICO: Avocado shortage due to war, the pandemic, inflation, and the climate crisis  
               
  Davao City-based Avante Agri Products Philippines Inc. agricultural company has exported two 40-footer container vans of pineapples and papayas to Singapore     Despite being the world’s top producer of avocado, local Mexican avocado prices have been increasing sharply.  
               
  KENYA: Malaysia, India line up for Kenyan avocado after China     AUSTRALIA: Guava growers consider replacing ‘declining’ crop, but exotic fruit finds home in sour beer  
               
  Malaysia and India are the latest big buyers eyeing Kenya’s avocado after China as the fruit continues to attract more international markets.     The last remaining commercial guava farmer in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales is preparing to rip out two-thirds of the orchard’s 3,000 trees.  
               
  CAMBODIA: Takeo’s jambolan wine     USA: Mexican fruit fly quarantine declared in Valley Center  
               
  For almost a decade, Rus Khet has been using pure jambolan or Java plum to produce wine through months of ageing until it tastes like red wine and is easy to consume.     The California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) declared a 77-square-mile quarantine covering Valley Center and surrounding areas after discovering several Mexican fruit flies (MXFF)
