PARAGUAY: Banana producers are concerned about the economic losses they’ve had this year     ECUADOR: Banana sectors fail to reach an agreement on the price of a box of bananas for 2023

Paraguay’s banana sector lost 50% of its income due to the fall of the Argentine peso.     The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock convened the first meeting to try to reach a consensus between the different parts of the banana sector on the price that will govern fruit exports in 2023.

AUSTRALIA: Appealing new variety banana splits taste and TR4 problem     PHILIPPINES: Banana sector loses hold on Asian exports

Ground-breaking research is bearing fruit in the quest to develop tasty bananas resistant to Panama TR4 disease, helping to protect good jobs in Queensland’s nation-leading banana industry.     The Philippines’ share of Asian banana exports has plunged from 90 per cent to 60 per cent according to data from The United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

COLOMBIA: Middle Eastern purchases boost Colombian mango exports by almost 20%     BURKINA FASO: Dried mangos are juicing up fruit exports

In the first half of the year, Colombian mango exports amounted to US$11.4 million, a 19.7% increase over the same period of the previous year that was driven by purchases from the Middle East.     Between March and July every year, fruit trees across Burkina Faso, a landlocked country in West Africa, come alive with the delightful smells and colorful sights of mangos.

CHINA: The turnover of papaya in Guangxi has increased by more than 6 times in the past 5 years     CANARY ISLANDS: Tropical pineapple producers from El Hierro train on cultivation technologies

In the past five years, the transaction volume of Guangxi agricultural products sold online has increased year by year, with an average annual increase of 35%.     The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands stated that it carried out a training activity on the island of El Hierro so that tropical pineapple producers implement cultivation technologies in their usual tasks.

KENYA: Firm secures approval for second avocado shipment to China     USA: The scent that could save California’s avocados

Kenya’s integrated agro-business firm Kakuzi confirmed it has secured pre-shipment approval from the Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service.     UC Riverside scientists are on the hunt for a chemical that disrupts “evil” weevils’ mating and could prevent them from destroying California’s supply of avocados.

CHINA: Durian boom only a prelude to vast opportunities for tropical fruits growers in SE Asia     PHILIPPINES: Davao to soon export durian to China

Durian from Southeast Asia has found more channels and pathways into the vast Chinese market ahead of the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival.     The overpowering smell of Davao’s famous durian may soon reach the biggest market for the pungent fruit.

AUSTRALIA: Making jackfruit jump off the shelves     USA: Why a massive surge in dragon fruit spells trouble for some farmers

Australian jackfruit is a tropical treasure: a fruit rich in vitamins, minerals and many phytochemicals that are known to have positive health benefits, and it is incredibly versatile in its culinary uses.     In Florida, a primary warm-climate farming location, growers and distributors report a flood of dragon fruit from South America, particularly Ecuador.
