The global production of avocado in 2005 amounted to 3.2 millions tonnes. The Central and South America region accumulated for about 50% of the world's avocado production. Mexico has the largest production accounting for 32% of global production in 2005. Other major avocado producing countries in South America are Colombia, Brazil, and Chile. Indonesia has the largest production in South-East Asia and was the second largest global producer in 2005.

Only about 20% of avocado productions are internationally trade and these are mainly being exported by Mexico (32.8%), Chile (20.4%), South Africa (12.5%), Spain (6.5%), and Israel (6.3%).

USA is the world largest avocado importing country, accounting for 39.6% of global import in 2005. The other major importing countries are mainly European Country, namely France (15.4%), United Kingdom (8.6%), and Netherlands (7.4%). In Asia, Japan is the largest importer of avocado (4.2%).
