Representatives from Tanzania, including the Ministry of Agriculture, Cereals and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (COPRA), Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), and Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) were in Malaysia from 11–15 August 2025 for a benchmarking visit, led by Mr. Gerald G. Mweli, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Tanzania. The Tanzania High Commission in Kuala Lumpur was also in attendance.
The visit aimed to support, among others, the formulation of COPRA’s 2026–2030 Strategic Plan.
At the CABI Southeast Asia office, Country Director Chin Sing Yun provided an overview of CABI’s regional programmes, while technical staff presented case studies on crop bioprotection and pest management, regional pest risk management, and maximum residue limit (MRL) reduction.
TFNet CEO, Mr. Muhamed Salim bin Mohd Ali, was invited to share TFNet’s strategic role in advancing global tropical fruit development, highlighting key projects and initiatives that have strengthened the industry in member countries. The Ministry of Agriculture and COPRA expressed strong interest in joining TFNet as a Member, with an initial focus on enhancing Tanzania’s mango, avocado, and other tropical fruit sectors.
