The 11th Indian Horticultural Congress was held from 6–9 November 2025 at the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru, India. It was organized by the Indian Academy of Horticultural Sciences in collaboration with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), the Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, the University of Agricultural Sciences Bengaluru, and the University of Horticultural Sciences, Bagalkot.
The inaugural session was led by Dr. M.L. Jat, Secretary of the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director General of ICAR. Dr. Jat urged scientists to “focus research and innovation efforts on nutrient-dense, opportunity, and traditional crops that can strengthen local food systems and improve public health outcomes.”
Mr. Muhamed Salim Mohd Ali, Chief Executive Officer of the International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet), highlighted the importance of cross-border and interdisciplinary collaboration, stating, “As we face challenges of climate change, trade volatility, and trade security, the Congress reminds us that partnerships are the key to resilience and growth.”
During the Congress, Mr. Salim presented a keynote paper titled “Innovations and Partnerships in Tropical Fruit Production: Strengthening Value Chains and Market Access”, in which he outlined TFNet’s five strategic roles designed to benefit farmers and stakeholders throughout the value chain. These roles aim to be inclusive, ensuring that innovation and market facilitation have broad impacts across the sector.
In addition, Mr. Salim chaired the session on Secondary Horticulture and Innovations in Product Development, guiding discussions on emerging trends and technologies.
Mr. Yacob Ahmad, Senior Technical Officer of TFNet, also delivered a keynote presentation on “Global Trends in Litchi and Rambutan Production, Value Addition and Trade” during the workshop on pomegranate and exotic tropical fruits.
