In line with the International Tropical Fruits Network’s (TFNet) mandate to link people, technology, and markets, TFNet Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr. Mohamed Salim bin Mohd Ali, paid a courtesy visit to the Philippine Food Processors and Exporters Organization (Philfoodex) at its office in Mandaluyong, Philippines, on 12 February 2026.

Mr. Salim was received by Mr. Fernando Esguerra, Director of Philfoodex and President of Good Sense Food and Juices Corp.

Philfoodex, Inc. is a non-stock, non-profit organization representing micro, small, medium, and large-scale food manufacturers and exporters in the Philippines. Recognised by both the private sector and government partners as the voice of the food manufacturing and exporting industry, Philfoodex works closely with key stakeholders on critical issues affecting the sector.

During the meeting, Mr. Salim presented an overview of TFNet’s programmes and activities, particularly those that support private sector development. Mr. Esguerra expressed strong interest in TFNet’s initiatives, especially capacity-building programmes such as training courses and study visits. He noted that participation in TFNet could help Philfoodex members enhance their knowledge and technical skills to further strengthen their businesses.

Mr. Esguerra also highlighted the importance of improving fruit yields and extending seasonal harvest windows to increase processing capacity. He emphasized that the lack of raw materials, particularly during the off-season, remains one of the main challenges faced by the fruit processing industry in the Philippines.

One of TFNet’s key plans for 2026 is to enhance its digital trade directory by developing a reliable online database for suppliers, exporters, and importers. In this regard, Mr. Esguerra agreed to nominate 10 to 15 tropical fruit exporters from Philfoodex to be included in the database. Mr. Salim, in turn, committed to sharing access to the database with Philfoodex as a resource to support trade promotion and business networking.
