KENINGAU, SABAH, 10 June 2026 – TFNet CEO, Mr Muhamed Salim bin Mohd Ali, participated in an industry assessment visit to avocado and pomelo farms in Keningau and Tenom, Sabah. The visit was organized by Sabah Durian and Tropical Fruit Planters Association/Making Sabah Durian Amazing (MaSDa) and led by its President, Mr Duane Evans. The programme was also attended by delegates from the Chinese Avocado Association.

The assessment visit was undertaken as part of the preparatory activities for the proposed International Sabah Avocado Forum 2026, which is expected to be held in late September or early October 2026, subject to the next avocado production cycle. The forum is intended to provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss industry development, technology adoption, market opportunities and value chain enhancement.

During the visit, participants engaged with avocado and pomelo growers to gain a better understanding of current production practices, industry challenges and opportunities for future growth. Discussions focused on farm productivity, quality management, post-harvest handling, market requirements and export readiness.

The assessment highlighted the importance of strengthening the avocado value chain to support the positioning of Sabah avocados as a premium product. Particular attention was given to identifying the needs of farmers and industry stakeholders to ensure that future programmes and interventions are aligned with industry requirements.

Findings and recommendations from the visit will contribute to the development of the upcoming forum programme. The initiative is expected to facilitate collaboration among growers, researchers, government agencies, industry representatives and international partners to support the sustainable growth of Sabah’s avocado industry.
