TFNet Chief Executive Officer, Muhamed Salim bin Mohd Ali, was invited by the Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture of Bangladesh, Dr. Rafiqul E. Mohamed, to a high-level meeting on 30 July 2026 to discuss strategic cooperation in advancing Bangladesh’s tropical fruit sector. The CEO was welcomed by Mr. Md. Khorshed Alam, Director General of the Seed Wing, Ministry of Agriculture and Bangladesh’s representative on the TFNet Board of Trustees, together with Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain Khan, Chief Seed Technologist, Ministry of Agriculture.

During the meeting, the CEO introduced the International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet) and provided an overview of the Network’s mandate and ongoing programmes involving Bangladesh. He highlighted Bangladesh’s important role as one of the founding members of TFNet and reaffirmed TFNet’s commitment to supporting the country’s tropical fruit industry through international collaboration, technical cooperation and capacity-building initiatives.

Dr. Rafiqul E. Mohamed emphasised the Government of Bangladesh’s commitment to expanding the export of Bangladeshi mangoes and requested TFNet’s assistance in facilitating government-to-government cooperation to open market access and establish export opportunities. He also expressed interest in working closely with TFNet on capacity-building programmes, technical assistance and the exchange of knowledge and best practices to enhance the competitiveness of Bangladesh’s tropical fruit sector.

The meeting concluded with both parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening collaboration and exploring new areas of partnership to promote sustainable tropical fruit development, improve market access and enhance the global competitiveness of Bangladeshi tropical fruits.
