The International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet) joined the online webinar “Unlocking Bilateral Investment Opportunities in Malaysia and Indonesia” on 20 October 2026. Organised by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the webinar was held as the Second Malaysia–Indonesia Investment Cooperation (MIIC) Sub-Working Group Seminar.
TFNet was represented by Mr Muhamed Salim bin Mohd Ali, Chief Executive Officer, and Mr Christian Anthony Tolentino Cangao, Information Officer.
The programme featured presentations on investment opportunities and facilitation in both countries. Ms Wahida Abdul Rahman, Director of MIDA’s Cross Border Investment Division, presented on MIDA’s support for Malaysian companies exploring investment opportunities abroad. The division facilitates overseas investment exploration and manages the Malaysia–Singapore Third Country Business Development Fund (MSBDF).
The presentation introduced the MSBDF as a joint fund supporting Malaysian and Singaporean companies and business associations undertaking activities together in third countries. Eligible activities include joint business missions, feasibility studies and pilot projects. The presentation stated that the fund is capped at RM200,000. MIDA and Enterprise Singapore jointly administer the fund, with published terms providing support of up to 50% of eligible expenses, capped at RM200,000 per activity.
Indonesia’s presentation, “Indonesia Investment Promotion Strategy and Facilitation,” was delivered by Mr Saribua Siahaan, Director of Investment Promotion for Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific at Indonesia’s Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM. It covered Indonesia’s investment promotion approach, foreign investment requirements and risk-based business licensing framework.
The webinar provided TFNet with an opportunity to learn more about the investment frameworks and support mechanisms available in Malaysia and Indonesia. It also offered useful context on how cross-border investment and business partnerships can contribute to stronger economic cooperation between the two countries.
TFNet will continue exploring new opportunities for its member countries, including potential partnerships, investment linkages and areas for cooperation that can support the sustainable development of the tropical fruit sector. The Network looks forward to building on engagements such as this webinar to connect its members with relevant institutions, expertise and opportunities across the region.
