This 2nd issue of the TFNet e-newsletter, highlights two main programs that were held in August 2009. The International Seminar on Recent Developments on Production, Post harvest Management and Trade of Minor Tropical Fruits was held on 18 - 19 August at the Best Western Seri Pacific Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. A total of 150 participants attended the seminar where 19 papers were presented by speaker from 9 countries. The TFNet 4th General Assembly which was attended by 34 delegates was held on 20 August at the same venue. The highlights of the General Assembly were the appointment of new board members, the welcoming of Nigeria as a new country member and an amendment to the constitution to facilitate more countries to join TFNet. The amendment states that countries wishing to join TFNet will only need to pay a one-time membership registration of USD 5000. There will no longer be any annual dues for country membership.
Two papers presented during the seminar, one on non-seasonal production of rambutan by Dr. Roedhy Poerwanto of Bogor Agricultural University, Indonesia and the other by Mr. Banharn Wismitanant, of CP Starlanes Co. Ltd, Thailand are also featured in this issue.
TFNet would also like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Izham Ahmad, CEO of the organization for the past three years for his leadership and guidance. Dr. Izham retired on 20 August 2009, and we wish him all the best in his future undertakings.
