About 36 million boxes of Mexican mangoes are expected to be imported in the second quarter, 10% more than in the second quarter of 2014.

The Empacadoras de Mango de Exportación (EMEX) estimate also is expected to be 3% higher than in the second quarter of 2013, the year Mexican mango imports set a new record, according to a news release from the Orlando-based National Mango Board.

EMEX is the organization representing Mexico’s mango export packing facilities.

In anticipation of the big volumes, the board is working with retailers and others to encourage aggressive promotions of Mexican mangoes.

“By communicating this information, we hope it will give everyone involved in the process the opportunity to plan ahead and prepare for better results,” Manuel Michel, the board’s executive director, said in the release.
