With Peru’s presence in the global avocado market on the rise, the nation’s capital is set to play host to the 8th World Avocado Congress.
The event will take place Sept. 13-18 in at the Westin Hotel in San Isidro, Lima’s financial district,
Presenters from avocado-producing regions around the world are scheduled to share the latest information on:
- genetic resources and nursery management;
- pest and disease control;
- orchard management techniques;
- postharvest best practices;
- avocados’ role in health and nutrition; and
- marketing.
Along with presentation, planned activities include:
- A Visit to orchards in Cañete and Chincha valleys south of Lima, where attendees will enjoy a lunch at Hacienda Mamacona for a taste of Peruvian cuisine and a chance to experience various artistic performances typical of the region.
- A Grand Gala Dinner will be at the Huaca Pucllana, for a taste of Peruvian history, culture and cuisine.
- A field tour to Trujillo and Chiclayo in the northern part of Peru, where the biggest avocado growing areas are, including visits the to orchards and packinghouses.
The congress meets every four years. The 7th World Avocado Congress was in Cairns, Australia, in 2011.
Prohass and Avocados from Peru are organizing this year’s event.
All presentations will be in Spanish or English, with simultaneous translation provided.
