Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has forecast that prices of ‘poovan’ and ‘karpooravalli’ varieties of bananas will be stable during August-September and the farm gate price would hover around Rs.15 – 17 (USD 0.24 – 0.27)  per kg.

Nendran banana would fetch Rs. 28 – 30 (USD 0.44 – 0.47) per kg as it has better prospects for further price rise due to Onam celebrations, according to an analysis by the Agro Marketing Intelligence and Business Promotion Centre in TNAU.

It said prices of other cultivars which escaped from “Chithirai Suzhi” – a whirlwind pattern normally occurring during April – May, would remain stable.

The growers can harvest their produce, based on the advisory, it said.
