Even though California Governor Jerry Brown isn’t mandating the agricultural sector to cut back water usage, the lack of rain is forcing some growers to put their farms up for sale.

Real estate agents with Re/Max Parkside Realtors say they’ve listed more and more farms in the past year because of the drought.

Morro Creek Ranch in Morro Bay is one farm Mother Nature has hung out to dry. Avocado grower Alan Cavaletto says he knows of close to ten more farms just on Highway 41 that are also casualties of the drought.

“The ranch is for sale, yes. We’re just one story in thousands of California right now that’s under the gun with lack of water,” Cavaletto said. “They’re out of water and nothing else to do, so packing up and moving on is what they’re doing. There are places adjacent that are for sale – you just don’t see for sale signs.”
