The International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet) held a discussion with Mr Pascal Liu, Team Leader, International Investment and Tropical Fruits, Trade and Markets Division, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), on 22 September 2026 and the FAO team to explore possible areas of cooperation.

FAO shared an update on their current programmes that focus on tropical fruits, including publishing the report on “Minor Tropical Fruits Global Trade Overview“, written by FAO Economist Sabine Altendorf. They also developing a heatmap that shows the export and import figures for banana and other tropical fruits such as avocado, papaya, pineapple, and mango, mangosteen and guava.

Meanwhile, TFNet outlined its planned activities and programmes. TFNet also introduced FruitNext, a new flagship initiative focused on youth development through a symposium.

FAO expressed its interest in supporting FruitNext and offered to assist with webinars organized by TFNet. Both organizations agreed to stay in contact and keep each other informed about opportunities for future collaboration.
