The International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet) is organizing  a workshop on “Revitalizing the Malaysian Tropical Fruit Industry: Enhancing Linkages between Small-Scale Producers and Other Stakeholders in the Value Chain” in Langkawi, Malaysia on 8-10 August 2016.

 

The workshop will include participants from the public and private sector, including policy makers, researchers, extension officers, farmers, and economists. Notable participants will include representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA), Department of Agriculture (DOA), Malaysian Agriculture Research and Development Institute (MARDI), Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA), Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (MPIB), Farmer’s Organization Authority (LPP), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Malaysia Fruit Farmers Association, and Green World Genetics Sdn. Bhd.

 

The workshop aims to develop a roadmap towards the improvement of tropical fruit production, marketing, and trade in Malaysia. Specifically, the workshop aims to address the following objectives:

  1. To promote research and development to improve supply chain process for domestic and export markets of fruit.
  2. To enable relevant government agencies and the private sector and small producers to conform to Good Agricultural Practices with increased, safe and quality fruit production.
  3. To discuss and recommend fruit processing methods, packaging, labelling and complying with available national and international standards.
  4. To improve marketing channels to facilitate domestic and international trade.
  5. To promote extension and socio-economic well-being among rural communities.
