Tropical fruit symposium to be held in Sri Lanka

Cognizant of the market potential and demand of superfruits, the International Tropical Fruits Network (TFNet) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Sri Lanka, with the support of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific, is organizing a symposium on Sustainable Production and Marketing of Tropical and Subtropical Fruits, with focus on potential superfruits.

INDIA: Mango exports to touch 45k tonnes as new markets emerge worldwide

As the mango season is coming to an end, mango exports have stopped from Maharashtra and Gujarat, but a few tonnes are being exported from Uttar Pradesh. Government statistics reveals that some 9,000 tonnes of mango have been exported from Maharashtra to Europe this season as against 7,000 tonnes the previous year.

Following a food poisoning outbreak caused by durian candies over the weekend, the Caraga office of the Department of Health (DOH-Caraga) sent samples of patients’ bodily fluids to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) on Monday (June 13).

     

INDIA: Banana prices to be stable during August-September

Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) has forecast that prices of ‘poovan’ and ‘karpooravalli’ varieties of bananas will be stable during August-September and the farm gate price would hover around Rs.15 – 17 (USD 0.24 – 0.27)  per kg.

VIETNAM: Bac Giang earns millions from lychee

The northern province of Bac Giang has earned around VND2.7 trillion (about US$123.8 million) from lychees so far this year.
