Myanmar will combine local avocado varieties with high-quality imported varieties to improve fruit quality and expand exports, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation Dr Ye Tint Tun said at the Myanmar Avocado and Fruit Festival 2026, held at Myay Padetha Island (Pearl Island) in Bahan Township on 24 October.

“There are also opportunities to export high-quality fruits grown in cool climates, such as strawberries, to international markets. I encourage growers, producers and traders to work together, address their mutual needs through close cooperation, and jointly promote the development of this industry,” said the deputy minister.

Myanmar-grown avocados are known for their quality and nutritional value, with growing domestic consumption and potential in international markets. The festival also provides business-matching opportunities to connect farmers, producers, traders and exporters While avocado grown from seeds previously took seven to 12 years to bear fruit, grafting techniques have shortened the period to around three years for commercial harvesting. The festival will be held until 26 October.
