USA: Record Mexican mango imports anticipated for Q2

The U.S. National Mango Board (NMB) is working with retailers to encourage promotional activities in the coming months amid anticipated larger volumes than normal coming from Mexico.

The NMB said the Mexican mango exporters’ association, EMEX, which represents the country’s export packing facilities, indicated this would be a ‘significant year’ for production.

As of April 10, EMEX is forecasting that Mexican mango import volumes will be approximately 36 million boxes during the second quarter of 2015 – representing a 10% year-on-year increase.

Q2 Mexican mango imports are also expected to be 3% higher than the period in 2013, which is the year that experienced the highest volumes of Mexican mango imports on record.

The NMB said it would be issuing additional projections and updates as soon as these become available in the weekly Mango Crop Report.

“By communicating this information, we hope it will give everyone involved in the process the opportunity to plan ahead and prepare for better results,” NMB executive director Manuel Michel said.
